What Kind of Tow Truck Do You Need? Flatbed, Wheel-Lift, or Hook and Chain

When your car breaks down or needs to be moved, not all towing is the same. Different types of vehicles — and situations — call for different tow trucks. At Valley Cat Towing, we offer multiple options to make sure your car is handled with care.

🚚 Flatbed Tow Trucks

Flatbed towing lifts your entire car off the ground and places it on a platform. It’s the safest and most secure option for:

  • All-wheel drive or 4WD vehicles

  • Low-clearance sports cars

  • Luxury cars

  • Heavily damaged vehicles

When to choose flatbed:
If your vehicle can’t roll freely or has low clearance, we’ll likely send a flatbed.

🚙 Wheel-Lift Tow Trucks

Wheel-lift towing uses a metal yoke that lifts two wheels (usually the front) while the others stay on the ground. It’s fast, efficient, and great for:

  • Front-wheel drive vehicles

  • Short-distance tows

  • Tight parking lots

When to choose wheel-lift:
For quick tows around town or vehicles in tight spaces, this is often the best option.

🪝 Hook and Chain Tow Trucks

This older method involves hooking your car’s axle and pulling it behind the tow truck. We rarely use it today — it's mostly reserved for junk or wrecked vehicles.

When to choose hook-and-chain:
If the vehicle is beyond repair and needs to be hauled to a scrapyard.

Which One Is Right for You?

When you call Valley Cat Towing, we’ll ask a few quick questions and send the right truck for the job. You don’t need to decide — we handle that for you.
